Cleetus McFarland Denied Superspeedway Approval; NASCAR Limits Him to Short Tracks

NASCAR has not approved Garrett Mitchell, a YouTuber who races as Cleetus McFarland, to run superspeedways in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series and has limited him to short tracks while he gains more experience.

In a Facebook video Garrett Mitchell said NASCAR told him "they did not see enough" after a hectic race in which he spun several times, and he acknowledged he needs more "windshield time" in ARCA and Truck events after one year in NASCAR.

Richard Childress Racing's Danny Lawrence told Motorsport.com the team expected NASCAR would want another run because they did not get to complete a live pit stop and the race unfolded quickly.

NASCAR EVP and Chief Racing Development Officer John Probst said on the Hauler Talk podcast that Cleetus McFarland is approved for O'Reilly short tracks, ARCA and Truck competition but needs additional experience before superspeedway approval; Garrett Mitchell said he hopes to run Daytona and Talladega next year.
