Corvette Engineers Say No Factory Manual as Tremec Transaxle Stays Aftermarket

Chevrolet Corvette engineers said there are no plans to offer a six-speed manual for the C8 Corvette, dismissing speculation that Tremec's new transaxle would become a factory option.

Engineering leads Tony Roma and Josh Holder told reporters at the 12 Hours of Sebring that they have no plans to discuss a manual, and Roma described the Tremec unit shown at SEMA as "not real."

Tremec announced a 6-speed transaxle in October as an aftermarket replacement using the C8's TR-9080 DCT mounting points, but the company declined further comment when contacted. That means C8 buyers should not expect a factory manual option, though the aftermarket transaxle could enable owner or shop swaps for enthusiasts willing to modify their C8.
