Coulthard Urges Russell to Unsettle Antonelli as Mercedes Title Fight Tightens

Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard said George Russell, a Mercedes driver, must "start eroding" team-mate Kimi Antonelli's confidence if he is to fight for the 2026 drivers' championship.

Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes team-mate to George Russell, has won two of the first three grands prix and became the youngest championship leader after his Japanese Grand Prix victory, holding a nine-point lead.

David Coulthard made the remarks on the Up To Speed podcast, arguing Russell should unsettle Antonelli while preserving the appearance of team unity at Mercedes.

A five-week break before the Miami Grand Prix, caused by the cancellations of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian rounds, gives rivals development time and could increase pressure on Russell and Mercedes.
