Denza B5: Byd’s 677bhp Plug-In Hybrid SUV with 62-Mile Electric Range Headed to UK

The Denza B5 is a new plug-in hybrid SUV from BYD’s Fangchengbao sub-brand, offering a 1.5-litre turbo with twin electric motors for a combined 677bhp and 561lb ft, plus a 31.8kWh battery claiming up to 62 miles WLTC electric range and ladder-frame off-road architecture. It will be badged as a Denza in the UK and was tested on private roads and the Goodwood circuit, though it is not yet road-legal there.

On track and gravel the Denza B5 felt heavy and top‑heavy in fast corners but delivered excellent low‑speed ride and strong, consistent brakes; its e‑CVT gives an elastic acceleration feel. The interior shown is not UK‑spec, retaining Chinese on-screen text, a large aeroplane‑style gear selector and three large displays.
