Dodge CEO Matt McAlear told attendees at the 2026 New York Auto Show that he still believes there is a market for an affordable sports car, a year after he was asked about a possible sub-$30,000 model, but he said Dodge has no project to confirm or deny.
McAlear said there is “absolutely a market for affordability” and that Dodge owes dealers and consumers more affordable-price vehicles that deliver style, attitude, and performance; he added, “Are we working on anything? Nothing that we can confirm or deny.”
McAlear urged a broader industry pivot toward back-to-basics entry vehicles and cited the original Viper’s 400-horsepower, bare-bones approach as an example of offering unexpected value. Dodge noted the idea is appealing but framed any new affordable sports-car effort as hypothetical for now.
