Nicolo Bulega, the World Superbike Championship leader, now faces an increasingly unlikely switch to MotoGP in 2027 as Ducati's Desmosedici GP seats are largely taken and his camp reports no written offer.
Bulega, a Ducati test rider on the 850cc prototype, substituted for Marc Marquez late last season and scored points at Portimao and Valencia while showing improved pace during the Valencia test.
Most Ducati Desmosedici GP seats for 2027 are effectively filled: Marc Marquez is confirmed, Pedro Acosta is set to join the factory team, Francesco Bagnaia is expected to move to Aprilia, and Fabio Di Giannantonio is slated to remain at VR46; Alberto Martinelli, Bulega's manager, told GPOne.com there is currently no written offer.
Bulega has opened the 2026 World Superbike season with two clean sweeps at Phillip Island and Portimao, and Ducati appointed him as a test rider partly for his experience with Pirelli tyres.
