Elliott’s Bold Pit Call Delivers Martinsville Victory for Hendrick Motorsports

Chase Elliott, driver for Hendrick Motorsports, won the NASCAR Cup race at Martinsville Speedway after an early pit strategy and late cautions handed him the lead, marking Hendrick Motorsports’ first victory of the season.

Elliott, who started tenth and ran ninth in the final stage, pitted on lap 262 after a call from Alan Gustafson, who made the early-stop decision for the team. A debris caution on lap 311 let Elliott take fresh tires under caution and rejoin contenders on the same strategy.

Denny Hamlin led 292 of 400 laps but lost the lead on a restart to Ross Chastain and later made contact with Ryan Blaney, dropping back. Elliott passed Chastain with 68 laps remaining and held off late charges to win by 0.565 seconds, giving Chevrolet its first win after several Toyota victories.
