GM's vehicle order guide indicates all 2027 Chevrolet Equinox models will receive an eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the current continuously variable transmission on front-wheel-drive Equinoxes. The change brings a single transmission choice to the Equinox lineup that previously split FWD and AWD units.
The shift aligns with GM's announced $39 million investment in its Toledo Propulsion Systems plant to increase capacity and introduce a new transmission variant to support the Equinox and other GM vehicles, and the GMC Terrain is expected to ditch the CVT on FWD models as well. Minor 2027 Equinox updates reportedly include a new Autumn Harvest Metallic exterior color and revised RS stitching.
