FIA Sets April Timeline to Tweak 2026 F1 Energy-Management Rules

The FIA has set a timetable for further discussions and potential tweaks to the 2026 Formula 1 technical and sporting regulations following a first meeting on energy-management issues.

Technical experts from teams and power unit manufacturers convened to address driver complaints about the emphasis on energy management in qualifying and safety concerns over large closing speeds when cars run out of electric energy, which led to a major accident for Haas driver Oliver Bearman in Japan.

Potential solutions discussed include reducing the electric energy drivers may deploy and increasing energy harvested during "super clipping," with the FIA saying early changes before the Miami Grand Prix would be modest and based on driver feedback and race data.

Sporting and technical meetings are scheduled for April 15 and April 16, with a high-level stakeholder session on April 20 followed by an e-vote a few days later and subsequent ratification, the FIA said.
