Ford F-150 Recall: 1.39m 2015 Pickups Recalled for Transmission Downshift Fault

Ford is recalling 1,392,935 2015 F-150 pickups for a six-speed automatic transmission defect that can cause an unintended downshift from sixth to second gear.

The recall report says degrading Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) lead-frame electrical connections, caused by thermal cycling and vibration, can send incorrect signals to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), prompting momentary incorrect TRS positions and reduced wheel speed or loss of control.

Ford first learned of the issue in October 2024 after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) provided Vehicle Owner Questionnaires; NHTSA opened a Preliminary Evaluation in March 2025 and elevated it to an Engineering Analysis in January 2026, and Ford approved the recall on April 7, 2026. Through April 2, Ford reported 444 warranty claims, 121 field reports, 105 customer service reports, 316 VOQs, and is aware of two injuries and one accident potentially related.

Ford will update PCM calibration to add time for the control system to recognize failed TRS hardware before commanding a downshift, and will replace the lead frame if specific diagnostic trouble codes are present.
