Ford, General Motors and Stellantis, through the American Automotive Policy Council, warned that proposed changes to the European Union's Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) rules could prevent U.S. full-size pickup trucks from being sold in Europe and undercut the U.S.-EU trade agreement.
Andrew Puzder, the U.S. ambassador to the EU, said the bloc's plans could breach the spirit of the trade deal if they keep American vehicles out, while automakers note those pickups account for less than 0.1% of the European market.
The American Automotive Policy Council, which represents Ford, General Motors and Stellantis, wrote to the U.S. commerce secretary asking the Trump administration to block or challenge the IVA changes, while the European Commission says it is finalising reforms launched in 2024 to close safety-related loopholes in the scheme.
