Ford Racing's Ford GT Mk IV set a Nürburgring lap record for American cars with a 6:15.977 time, becoming the third-fastest production car recorded on the circuit.
The track-only Ford GT Mk IV is limited to 67 examples, was built with Multimatic, and uses a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 rated at over 800 horsepower. The time places the Ford GT Mk IV behind the Porsche 919 Hybrid EVO and the Volkswagen ID.R and makes it the fastest internal-combustion production car around the 12.9-mile circuit.
Ford Racing worked with Multimatic and Michelin to tune the car, which was driven by Frédéric Vervisch, a factory driver for Ford Racing with extensive Nürburgring experience. Cold conditions on April 1 led to a top-speed limit of about 193 mph during the run, and the car remains intended for track use only.
