Ford GT Posts 6:15.977 at Nürburgring to Become Third-Fastest Car Ever

A fourth-generation Ford GT recorded a 6:15.977 lap around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, confirmed by the circuit's official record-keepers, making the Ford GT the third-fastest car ever to lap the track.

Only the Porsche 919 Hybrid EVO and the Volkswagen ID.R posted faster laps, and the Ford GT's time is the quickest for a pure internal-combustion car and the fastest American entry on the list. Ford Racing factory driver Frédéric Vervisch drove the lap and shared the result on April 2 after completing the run the previous day.

The out-of-production Mk IV Ford GT logged its time in the same prototype class as the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, leapfrogging Chevrolet and placing ahead of the Mercedes-AMG One, which recorded a 6:29 in the Super Sports class.
