Ford Mustang GTD Competition Reclaims Nürburgring Crown with 6:40.835 Lap

Ford has reclaimed the fastest American production car title at the Nürburgring with the Mustang GTD Competition, which completed a lap in 6 minutes 40.835 seconds.

The record run was piloted by Ford Performance and Multimatic factory driver Dirk Müller and used an upgraded Mustang GTD Competition with an evolved supercharged 5.2-liter V8, plus magnesium wheels, carbon bucket seats, lighter dampers and enhanced aero.

The 6:40.835 mark is about 11 seconds quicker than the Mustang GTD’s previous best and more than eight seconds faster than the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X’s 6:49.275, after Chevrolet briefly held the American benchmark.

Ford said a street-legal, serialized Mustang GTD Competition will follow and the company has reopened applications for the regular Mustang GTD; pricing for the Competition has not been announced.
