GasBuddy: U.S. Drivers Face Billions in Extra Fuel Costs as Diesel Nears Record

GasBuddy data show the U.S. national average for regular gasoline is $4.09 per gallon and diesel is $5.52, with three states paying over $5 per gallon as prices climb.

Patrick De Haan of GasBuddy estimated that recent tensions with Iran have already added about $10 billion to U.S. drivers' fuel bills. GasBuddy also reported gasoline purchases are costing an extra $430 million today, up from $350 million on March 19.

GasBuddy's pricing model projects diesel could set a new all-time record within three to five days, a move that would raise costs for trucking and consumer goods.

Plains states are seeing immediate pump jumps of $0.15 to $0.40 per gallon, and GasBuddy says diesel is at least $2 more expensive in five states compared with pre-conflict levels.
