Gazoo Racing Signals GR Yaris M Could Spawn MR2 and Celica Road Cars

Toyota’s Gazoo Racing is developing the GR Yaris M and testing it on tracks, and Gazoo Racing marketing manager Mikio Hayashi said the project could lead to a road or mass-production model. Hayashi said the learnings from motorsport development will be translated into something else, possibly a production car.

The GR Yaris M debuted at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2025 and has appeared at Japanese race tracks as a test bed rather than a final hatchback design. Toyota has been refining the concept while assessing broader applications for its mid-engine layout and engine.

Company hints suggest a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine developed for high performance could power future GR models, with outputs of over 400 horsepower and an all-wheel-drive setup likely. Reports also name a possible Celica Sport revival alongside the suggested MR2.

Gazoo Racing is positioned as a standalone brand, and sources indicate a new MR2 would carry GR badging and sit within the GR lineup beneath larger models; Toyota’s broader sports-car strategy, including a returning Supra, remains under development.
