Honda Recalls 440,830 Odyssey Minivans to Recalibrate Airbag Sensors

Honda is recalling 440,830 Odyssey minivans built from January 2017 through June 2022 to recalibrate a central SRS ECU after programming errors could cause inadvertent deployment of second- and third-row side and side curtain airbags. The recall targets the sensor parameters that may misinterpret strong road impacts as side impacts.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration document says the SRS ECU control logic for the second and third rows contains insufficient deployment threshold margin, so potholes, speed bumps or road debris can produce G-signal inputs that trigger airbags. Honda estimates about 0.1% of the affected population (roughly 440 vehicles) are truly affected.

The recall identifies three ECU part numbers (77960-THR-A020-M2, 77960-THR-A120-M2, 77960-THR-A220-M2) and notes the unit is located under the dashboard. Honda’s investigation began in November 2017 and concluded in July 2021; the NHTSA filing warns inadvertent deployment increases the risk of injury.
