Honda Test Rider Aleix Espargaro Fractures Four Vertebrae in Sepang Crash

Spanish rider Aleix Espargaro suffered four fractured vertebrae in a crash on Tuesday during Honda MotoGP testing in Sepang, and his spinal cord was reportedly not affected.

Espargaro posted that he sustained several contusions, spent a few days at CU Aurelius Hospital receiving care, and is now flying home with his wife Laura to assess whether he needs surgery at Quiron Dexeus Hospital.

Espargaro had been focusing on development of Honda's 2026 RC213V prototype, and with him sidelined Japan's Takaaki Nakagami, the brand's other test rider, will contribute to development of both the 2026 RC213V and the 2027 RC214V 850cc prototype.

Honda's official 2026 test schedule includes Jerez on 27 April and Barcelona on 18 May with 1000cc bikes and Michelin tires, and Brno (22 June) and Spielberg (21 September) with 2027 850cc bikes on Pirelli.
