Hyundai Debuts Boulder Concept with Modular, Tactile Interior for U.S. Body-On-Frame Direction

Hyundai unveiled the Boulder concept SUV in New York, a preview of its future body-on-frame vehicles designed and built in and for the U.S.

The Boulder’s cabin develops the layout introduced by last fall’s Crater concept, retaining a "Bring Your Own Device" rail for movable gauges and smaller modular displays while adding a cylindrical lower dash with vertical meters and large rotary dials. Hyundai fitted more production-friendly materials such as textiles and padding in the Boulder’s interior rather than the exposed metal seen on the Crater.

Instead of a single central touchscreen, the Boulder uses smaller, localized screens and physical controls; the dash shows media, an inclinometer, maps and four-wheel-drive activity alongside controls for diff locks and drive modes and a compass. Hyundai’s Boulder signals a design direction favoring modular, grouped controls over one megascreen for upcoming U.S.-focused body-on-frame models.
