Hyundai released a teaser video ahead of the 2026 New York Auto Show (April 1 at 9:55 a.m. ET) showing a large rock floating above a person, hinting at a new body-on-frame vehicle.
Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president of product planning and mobility strategy at Hyundai North America, told The Drive in November that upcoming Hyundai vehicles will be "100%" more capable off-road and that the XRT "is not gonna be a trim." Hyundai showed the electric Crater concept at the 2025 LA Auto Show and discontinued the unibody Santa Cruz pickup in January, prompting production speculation.
Hyundai has said a body-on-frame truck will reach the U.S. by 2030 and an SUV is likely to follow; Boyle added such platforms "allow a lot of opportunities" for off-road capability.
