Hyundai’s Safari-Style Doors and Modular Roof Aim at the Upfitting Market

Hyundai revealed a vehicle design that wraps the side doors into the roof to form small “Safari” windows and includes a modular roof panel with raised edges intended to accept accessory rails, as the company eyes the upfitting market.

By wrapping the doors into the roof, Hyundai's design keeps the roof clear when standing on the door sill to access the luggage rack. The larger coach-style doors would be heavier if engineered to be removable, and they are not currently designed to be detachable.

A video showed the naked roof panel with raised outer edges where different side rails can be attached, and Hyundai hopes to capture upfitting business by offering light bars, baskets and other accessories to fit.
