Jaguar Land Rover and Chery Revive Freelander with Electrified Concept 97

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Chery unveiled the Freelander Concept 97, reviving the Freelander name on an electrified platform built at the Changshu plant and replacing Discovery Sport and Evoque production lines.

The Concept 97 references the original Freelander (1997–2015) with a diagonal D‑pillar, "Freelander" nameplate replacing a traditional grille, recurring "FL" logos in lighting and trim, and rear‑hinged doors that may be show‑car features.

Jaguar Land Rover says the architecture supports full battery‑electric or plug‑in hybrid configurations, does not plan U.S. sales and is targeting Europe, and an Australian crash test reported by CarExpert suggests the rear‑hinged doors may not reach production; a production‑ready version is expected in June.
