Kia and BraunAbility Promote Electric PV5 Conversion as Wheelchair-Accessible NYC Taxi Option

Kia and BraunAbility presented a wheelchair-accessible electric PV5 minivan concept aimed at meeting New York City's 2030 requirement that taxis be all-electric or wheelchair-accessible.

Jake Craig, senior national account manager for BraunAbility, said the PV5's upright, cab-forward design, short turning radius and vertical walls create more usable interior space than the popular Toyota Sienna conversions and reduce ramp drag on steep New York driveways.

BraunAbility's conversion enlarges the cargo area to allow a wider rear deployable ramp that stows flat on the floor, and integrated floor-mounted restraints streamline wheelchair securing. As a fully electric Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle, the Kia PV5 conversion is positioned as an option for New York City taxis replacing vans and hybrid Siennas.
