Kia and BraunAbility Reveal PV5 Taxi Concept Aimed at Wheelchair Accessibility

Kia and BraunAbility unveiled a PV5 "production-ready concept" at the 2026 New York auto show that could become an electric wheelchair-accessible taxi for U.S. fleets.

The companies said the vehicle will undergo real-world testing in the United States; the PV5 is already on sale globally and this concept includes U.S.-spec lighting.

BraunAbility said this is the first electric vehicle it has modified for wheelchair service, installing a rear-folding ramp and retaining a two-row, five-passenger interior with a second-row bench and a tall roof.

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission has not announced approval, though Midori Valdivia, newly appointed New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission commissioner and chair, has listed accessibility as a priority, and Kia said the model could serve fleets in other U.S. cities.
