Mason Maggio, driver of the No. 91 DGM Racing Chevrolet, escaped uninjured after his engine failed and flames erupted under the car on Lap 194 of the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Maggio climbed from the car quickly with assistance from a JR Motorsports crew member and a Peterson Racing crew member as track safety crews extinguished the fire and applied speedy dry to leaked fluids; the race was briefly red-flagged for cleanup.
Maggio told The CW he was fine, saying oil pressure dropped on the restart, the motor failed and he did not expect the car to ignite.
Maggio had been running 35th when the failure occurred; it was his 25th career start in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series and his No. 91 DGM Racing Chevrolet was taken to the garage area after the incident.
