McLaren’s Oscar Piastri Says Mental Training Can Outweigh Physical Prep in F1

Oscar Piastri, McLaren Formula 1 driver, said mental training can be equally or more important than physical training during a fan Q&A with Quad Lock as he reflected on his intense 2025 season and championship fight.

Piastri argued that while engineers seek hundredths of a second, a poor state of mind can leave tenths on the table and reduce on-track performance. He highlighted identifying fatigue and sometimes stepping back as key to preserving focus.

Piastri said he was mentally exhausted by the end of his debut 2023 season and worked to manage stress and priorities in 2025. He acknowledged progress in mental strength with McLaren but said there is still room to improve and to work with his team to maximize his potential.
