Mechanic May Require Deposits After No‑Show Costs Him Another Customer

Independent mechanic Jonathan Hall said he is considering charging non‑refundable deposits after a no‑show brake appointment left him turning away another customer.

The woman called repeatedly after Hall opened and they agreed to a same‑day brake repair, allowing him to organize his schedule around a 1 p.m. slot. He said he then declined a different driver who needed immediate help because he had committed to the appointment.

In a TikTok clip viewed more than 1,800 times, Jonathan Hall said the woman later called to apologize and told him she forgot and would not make it. He told viewers he had turned the other customer away because of that commitment.

Hall said the experience convinced him to consider deposits to reduce costly no‑shows and to avoid starting jobs he could not finish or leaving customers waiting.
