Mercedes-Benz EQS Gains 800V Charging, Bigger Battery and Two-Speed Rear Drive for 2027

Mercedes-Benz has updated the EQS for 2027 with subtle exterior tweaks and major under-the-skin changes, including an 800‑volt electrical platform, increased usable battery capacity and faster DC charging.

Exterior updates include raised power domes, star-pattern daytime running lights, helix-style taillights, a more prominent rear diffuser and a sparkly metallic black paint option. Model names begin with EQS450+ for rear-drive, the mid AWD trim is renamed EQS500 4Matic and the EQS580 4Matic remains the top model.

The 800‑volt system allows the EQS to accept up to 350 kW charging versus about 200 kW previously, and improved chemistry raises usable energy to 122 kWh from 118 kWh without increasing pack size. Mercedes-Benz cites WLTP range up to 575 miles and says that equates to roughly 425 miles on EPA testing.

Mercedes-Benz now uses in-house-designed motors and a two-speed transmission on the primary rear drive unit, with the front motor declutched during steady cruising to improve efficiency. Regenerative braking can reach about 385 kW, enabling routine deceleration to rely largely on regen and supporting one-pedal driving if desired.
