Mercedes-Benz VLE ‘Grand Limousine’ Set for 2028 as Luxury People Mover

Mercedes-Benz will introduce the 2028 VLE, a large luxury people mover the company calls a "grand limousine," featuring sliding doors and packaged as a premium, niche vehicle, Mercedes-Benz Group CEO Ola Källenius said.

Ola Källenius said the VLE’s size and layout make it more like a lounge or living room on wheels and noted it is longer than a Cadillac Escalade, suited for luxury hotels, large families or sports teams.

Adam Chamberlain, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, said there is a market for the VLE if priced and marketed correctly and cautioned it must be executed precisely. Mercedes-Benz said it learned from the Metris, discontinued after about 60,000 sales since 2015, calling it "too vanilla."

The VLE is still some way from launch, and Källenius emphasized Mercedes-Benz will prioritize value over volume as it prepares the model and determines U.S. positioning for the luxury people mover.
