MotoGP Manufacturers Begin Testing 2027 850cc Prototypes as Pirelli Takes Over Tyres

MotoGP manufacturers have begun testing 2027 850cc prototypes ahead of sweeping rule changes that cut aerodynamics, ban ride‑height devices and move tyre supply from Michelin to Pirelli.

KTM started runs in Jerez late last year, Honda and Yamaha tested in Sepang and Japan, and KTM and Yamaha returned to Jerez in March on Pirelli tyres; Aprilia and Ducati will debut their 2027 prototypes in April with test riders Lorenzo Savadori, a test rider, and Nicolo Bulega, a test rider.

Full‑time MotoGP riders may not test the 2027 machinery until 22 June, the Monday after the Czech Republic Grand Prix, with additional sessions planned at Mugello, Barcelona, Misano, Spielberg and Valencia.

Only riders with confirmed 2027 contracts or extensions — including Johann Zarco, a MotoGP rider, and Diogo Moreira, a MotoGP rider — can test early, manufacturers will block riders from testing rival brands, and an amnesty for the post‑season Valencia test is under discussion for safety.
