Murphy USA: TikTok Creator James Wrigg Finds Gas Under 10% Ethanol

TikTok creator and consumer advocate James Wrigg posted a video on April 2 showing gasoline sampled at Murphy USA tested below 10% ethanol using a handheld consumer ethanol test kit.

Wrigg filled about a quarter tank to confirm pump output, collected a sample in a test bottle, shook it and waited about five minutes for the result, and he warned in the video about a possible E15 rollout, required signage and risks to small engines.

Viewers in the video's comments said the Murphy USA sample passed Wrigg’s ethanol test and raised other concerns such as pumps dispensing short gallons; Wrigg said he will continue to measure a quart each visit and run longer multi-gallon tests.

Wrigg demonstrated the kit method of mixing gasoline and water in a reusable bottle, shaking and observing separation, and similar reusable ethanol testing kits are available online for roughly $10 to $15.
