Nissan Confirms Pure V6 and Hybrid Options for Revived Xterra

Nissan US chief of product planning Ponz Pandikuthira said the revived Nissan Xterra will be offered as a pure internal-combustion V6 model alongside a V6 hybrid variant.

Pandikuthira said the Xterra will be a body-on-frame SUV and Nissan plans to use a V6 rather than small turbo four-cylinder engines. Nissan currently fields a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 in the Nissan Z and Infiniti Q50 and a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 in the Frontier, but Pandikuthira did not specify which engine will be used.

Pandikuthira said Nissan will build the hybrid from the ICE-only version and confirmed there are no plans for an EV Xterra or a manual-transmission option. The company also said the Xterra will be automatic-only and is expected to debut in 2028.

Nissan emphasized that an ICE-only V6 model will provide a simpler, longevity-focused choice for buyers seeking a traditional off-road truck.
