Nissan to Offer Heritage Editions and Build-To-Order 2027 Z with Nismo Manual

At the 2026 New York Auto Show, Ponz Pandikuthira, Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer for Nissan North America, told The Drive that Nissan will lean into heritage-based special editions, refresh the 2027 Nissan Z and shift it to a build-to-order model including a Nismo manual.

Pandikuthira said many buyers are older enthusiasts who lusted after the Z when they were younger and are buying the car as a trophy or retirement vehicle, and that the Nismo performance version is selling extremely well.

Pandikuthira said Nissan will "animate" the Z with special versions over the next three years rather than abandon the model. The 2027 Z adds a mild front-bumper refresh and a manual transmission for the Nismo, and buyers can expect three- to six-month wait times for bespoke builds as the model moves to a build-to-order cadence.
