The accident occurred on the third lap at the exit of Klostertal, involving seven cars including Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 #27, BMWs #111 and #121, Porsche Cayman GTS #410, Porsche Cayman CM12 #448, Toyota Supra #503 and Porsche 911 GT3 Cup #992; emergency services extracted Miettinen and resuscitation at the Medical Centre was unsuccessful.
Race control announced the race will not resume Saturday evening and a minute’s silence for Juha Miettinen will be held during the grid formation for Sunday’s Nürburgring race at 13:00, with the weekend programme expected to continue with scheduled qualifying and the four-hour event.
