Owner Keeps MINI After £9,500 Drop Highlights Replacement Dilemma

A three-year-old Mini Cooper Sport purchased from a Mini dealer in April 2022 for £21,895 is now valued at about £12,500, a £9,500 decline that led the owner to keep the vehicle rather than trade it in.

Industry wisdom to "buy at two, sell at four" argues two-year cars lose their steepest value, then depreciate more slowly, but rising new-car prices, higher maintenance costs and wider economic concerns are making owners more likely to retain vehicles.

The car was a 2019-registered Mini Cooper Sport automatic with 7,500 miles and fitted with a JCW kit, panoramic roof and heated seats; it now has about 39,000 miles while similar three-year examples still trade near £22,000. The owner has kept the Mini service history and decided against handing the car to a dealer, citing the immediate loss and personal attachment as reasons to retain the Mini.
