Motor1 published a video showing the sympathetic recommissioning of the Porsche 959 No.185 that finished second in the 1986 Paris-Dakar Rally.
Car No.185 was piloted by driver Jacky Ickx and co-driver Claude Brasseur and finished behind another Porsche 959 in the event, and Porsche says the race-winning car remains preserved and untouched.
The recommissioning was not a full restoration: the team fully disassembled the car to inspect parts, replacing bearings, seals and a few hoses while retaining much of the original fabric. Motor1 noted the 959 had covered roughly 8,700 miles of African terrain and was in remarkably good condition.
The footage lets viewers see and hear a race-ready Rothman's-liveried Porsche 959 in operation, offering a rare look at Porsche 959 Dakar hardware while the winning car stays preserved.
