Renault has launched the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, a 533bhp electric halo car priced from £140,000 (rising to £220,000 with options) and limited to 1,980 examples. The car was shown in pre-production form at Goodwood.
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E rides on the Alpine Performance Platform shared with the electric Alpine A110, keeps only mirrors, door handles and tail lights from the original Renault 5, and uses a carbon-composite structure to hold kerb weight near 1,450kg with a 0–62mph time of about 3.5 seconds. The cabin featured six-point harnesses, a roll cage, bespoke tartan seats and a bright yellow hydraulic handbrake, and cars are already close to selling out.
