Rodney Childers Brings Cup Expertise to JR Motorsports’ No. 1 Car

Rodney Childers, the 2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion crew chief, has taken a role at JR Motorsports leading the No. 1 car split between drivers Carson Kvapil and Connor Zilisch.

Childers told Motorsport.com he feels at home at JR Motorsports, arriving early and staying late while pursuing small details intended to improve the entire organization as well as the No. 1 car.

He said his main goal was not only to make the No. 1 car run well but to make the whole organization better, and he pointed to a recent run of five wins as evidence of progress.

Justin Allgaier, a driver who is leading the championship with three wins alongside crew chief Andrew Overstreet, praised Childers' NASCAR Cup Series experience and said it brings valuable data and process insights to JR Motorsports.
