Sky Sports’ David Croft Urges FIA to Tweak 2026 F1 Battery Rules Before British GP

Sky Sports Formula 1 lead commentator David Croft urged the FIA to introduce tweaks to the 2026 regulations before the British Grand Prix, warning that battery energy limits could blunt high-speed corners such as Maggotts and Becketts.

The FIA is reviewing the 2026 regulations during an unexpected April break after complaints from teams and drivers, and Croft made the remarks on the Sky Sports F1 Show amid concerns the batteries may not sustain flat-out lap and race pace.

The issue was underlined by Ollie Bearman's high-speed crash at the Japanese Grand Prix after he closed on Alpine driver Franco Colapinto while Colapinto was harvesting energy; Bearman lost control after rejoining from the grass and hit the barriers.

Croft said he hopes the FIA gets the changes right before Silverstone and asked whether fans would accept lap times roughly two seconds slower to shift emphasis back to the internal combustion engine so drivers can race and qualify on the limit.
