Subaru Adds Hybrid to Wilderness Line with 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid

Subaru will add a hybrid to its Wilderness subbrand with the 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid, which is on track to reach showrooms by the end of 2026.

The Forester Wilderness Hybrid will be offered in a single, well-equipped trim with an 11-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo, a 12.3-inch digital gauge, in-dash navigation and a power liftgate. It wears rugged exterior cues, rides on matte-black 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, has 9.3 inches of ground clearance and added underbody protection.

The hybrid powertrain makes slightly more horsepower and torque than the nonhybrid Forester but was 0.3 second slower to 60 mph in testing and should improve fuel economy. Subaru has sold almost 250,000 Wilderness-badged models since 2021 and the nonhybrid Forester Wilderness represents over 13 percent of Forester sales; pricing has not been announced.
