Subaru Unveils 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid with More Power and 9.3-Inch Clearance

Subaru unveiled the 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid at the New York International Auto Show, combining the Forester Hybrid powertrain with Wilderness off-road hardware to produce 194 hp, standard all-wheel drive, and estimated fuel economy of about 34/30 mpg city/highway.

Trail-focused Wilderness components — longer springs and shocks, 17-inch matte-black wheels on Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires, aluminum skidplates and extended body cladding — preserve 9.3 inches of ground clearance and improve approach, departure, and breakover angles. Subaru retuned the suspension for roughly 275 pounds of added weight, and the 1.1-kWh hybrid battery replaces the full-size spare tire.

Subaru estimates about a 25 percent fuel-economy improvement and a full-tank driving range exceeding 500 miles; the Hybrid Wilderness uses a 3.70:1 final drive ratio versus the gasoline Wilderness' 4.11:1. Interior features largely mirror the nonhybrid model with gold trim, water-repellent cloth, an 11.6-inch infotainment screen and optional 12.3-inch gauges and Harman Kardon audio.
