Tesla Buyer Faces $16,000 Battery Repair After 2018 EV Loses Charge

A buyer who purchased a 2018 Tesla Model S is facing a $16,000 battery repair after the vehicle’s battery failed and was reported to be out of warranty, according to a TikTok clip.

Alex, a car salesman who specializes in electric vehicles, uploaded a snippet of a call with the woman in which she describes rapid state-of-charge loss after charging and the car refusing to charge at a dealer supercharger.

The clip states the car’s odometer read about 110,000 miles; Tesla’s battery warranty is eight years or 150,000 miles with a 70% capacity retention guarantee, so coverage depends on both age and mileage.

Tesla quoted $16,000 for a battery replacement, leaving the buyer unable to drive the car until repairs; Alex advised trying to unwind the sale or pursue legal action while noting financing another vehicle could raise payments.
