Toyota RAV4 GR Sport Sharpens Chassis and Ride but Keeps PHEV Powertrain

Toyota's RAV4 GR Sport debuts as the sporty flagship of the new RAV4 range but uses the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the standard 4WD model sold in Britain.

It uses a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with three electric motors, a 20kWh battery and a claimed 75-mile electric range, and Toyota says 0–62 mph takes just under six seconds.

Toyota fitted the GR Sport with bespoke chassis tuning—high-performance front dampers, a reinforced rear brace and revised springs—yielding tighter body control and a more direct steering feel than the standard RAV4.

Inside, GR badges and red stitching are the main changes, while two paddles control six regenerative-braking settings that are mild and not retained after a drive; the RAV4 GR Sport remains comfortable and efficient rather than an outright performance SUV.
