Toyota’s 2026 C-HR XSE Delivers Sporty, Quick Performance in Tests

Toyota’s 2026 C-HR compact EV, in top-spec XSE form, produced 338 hp from a standard dual-motor AWD setup and achieved a 0–60 mph time of 4.5 seconds in instrumented testing.

In testing the C-HR XSE showed spritely handling and composed body control that supported the quick acceleration; the Chevrolet Equinox EV RS AWD needed 5.7 seconds and the Volkswagen ID.4 AWD Pro S recorded 4.3 seconds to 60 mph.

Braking from 60 mph required 124 feet with a firm pedal feel, a result slightly better than the Equinox EV and comparable to the ID.4; testers noted audible ABS noise and limited tire bite from the Yokohama Geolander X-CV during extreme stops. Regenerative braking handles most city stops but the C-HR does not offer a full one-pedal driving mode, using steering-wheel paddles to increase regeneration as needed, while Toyota positions the C-HR as a sportier complement to its EV lineup.
