Four-time Formula One champion Max Verstappen and Winward Racing were disqualified from their victory in the 58th ADAC Barbarossapreis NLS at the Nürburgring after race control found a tire-regulation breach.
Verstappen had taken pole and, with teammates Dani Juncadella and Jules Gounon, finished about a minute clear of the field, but officials ruled the car used seven sets of tires instead of the permitted six.
Winward Racing team principal Christian Hohenadel acknowledged the mistake, apologized to supporters, and said the team will analyze the incident and concentrate on preparing for the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring.
The win was awarded to the No. 99 ROWE Racing BMW M4 GT3 driven by drivers Dan Harber and Jordan Pepper after a late battle with the No. 44 Falken Motorsports Porsche; Winward Racing said it was its first outing as the Mercedes-AMG Performance Team on the Nordschleife.
