Viral TikTok Shows Waymo Car Rear-Ended by Semi on Houston Highway

A Waymo autonomous vehicle was struck from behind by an 18-wheeler on a Houston highway, footage shared on TikTok by creator Lucia Molina shows.

A Waymo spokesperson said the autonomous vehicle, with a specialist behind the wheel, merged into the left lane when a semi made contact with the rear bumper, became lodged under the vehicle, both stopped, 911 was called and there are no reported injuries.

Lucia Molina’s TikTok clip appears to show the Waymo merging into the left lane before the impact and a traffic backup that she said took her about 30 minutes to cover two miles; the video has more than 240,400 views.

Waymo began limited rider services in Houston in February and said highway driving in the city is still early in deployment, while broader highway testing has been more established in other markets such as Phoenix and the Bay Area.
