Ford set a Nürburgring lap record with the track-only GT Mk IV, posting a 6:15.977 and becoming the fastest American automaker around the Nordschleife.
The GT Mk IV ran as a track-only car in the Prototype class and eclipsed the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X's 6:49.275 time. It is now the fastest internal-combustion car at the Nürburgring and the third-fastest overall behind the Volkswagen ID.R (6:05.335) and the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo (5:19.546).
Introduced in 2022, the Ford GT Mk IV rides on a Multimatic carbon-fiber chassis with a long-tail body and aerodynamics said to generate more than 2,400 pounds of downforce at 150 mph. It is powered by a bespoke twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter EcoBoost V6 making more than 820 horsepower and has a reported price around $1.7 million, compared with the road-going GT's 660-hp 3.5-liter unit.
