Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) filed surveillance photos with the Western District of North Carolina alleging that Chris Gabehart, a former Joe Gibbs Racing crew chief and engineer who is moving to the Chief Motorsports Officer role at Spire Motorsports, violated a temporary restraining order.
Judge Susan Rodriguez’s TRO allows Gabehart to work at Spire but bars him from duties overlapping his prior competition director role at JGR, pending settlement talks or a November trial.
Chris Gabehart and his lawyers asked the court to disregard the filing, calling the photos an improper late submission and accusing JGR of "stalking" him at races; they said his CMO role differs from competition director duties and noted Matt McCall is Spire’s competition director.
Gabehart’s team cited LEGACY Motor Club’s hiring of former JGR COO Michael Gutilla and a Legacy press release saying JGR assisted that move to argue against JGR’s claim of a unique confidentiality threat.
