Max Verstappen Backs Red Bull Race Engineer Gianpiero Lambiase’s Move to McLaren

Max Verstappen, four-time Formula 1 world champion, said he supports race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase's planned move from Red Bull Racing to McLaren, with Lambiase expected to join McLaren by the start of 2028 at the latest.

McLaren announced Lambiase's appointment as chief racing officer last week, and the move is subject to any deal to release Lambiase from his Red Bull contract before it ends.

Verstappen, speaking at a Viaplay event in Amsterdam, said Lambiase told him about the opportunity and that he encouraged Lambiase to accept it, adding their working relationship and friendship would remain intact.

Max Verstappen's current Red Bull contract runs until the end of 2028, and McLaren has set the latest timing for Lambiase's move as the start of 2028, pending any early release.
