Ford Recalls 1.39m F-150 Pickups for Transmission Sensor Fault

Ford is recalling 1,392,935 F-150 pickups for a transmission defect linked to degraded lead-frame electrical connections that can cause Output Shaft Speed and Transmission Range Sensor signal loss and unexpected shifts.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation covering about 1.27 million 2015–2017 F-150s with the 6R80 six-speed automatic after owner questionnaires and testing documented downshifts, wheel lockup reports and a risk of a vehicle changing direction if the transmission shifts to neutral while reversing uphill.

Ford told NHTSA it had received 444 warranty claims, 121 field reports, 105 customer service reports and 316 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires, including two injuries and one accident; owners will be notified in late April and a remedy is expected in July involving Powertrain Control Module calibration updates and, in some cases, lead-frame replacement.
